A unique and highly useful list of distances for shopping mall walkers inside twenty-two shopping malls of Central and Southeast Michigan, and Toledo, measured in feet and miles by walking each mall with a measuring wheel in H1 of 2026.
Starting from any place inside the shopping mall that is not inside a store, you will approximate the indicated distance if you walk near the walls and store fronts, always bearing right (counterclockwise), until you arrive back where you started. The distance includes the full length of every passageway that mall visitors can access. The little hallways that lead to restrooms or employee-only areas or emergency exits are not included in the distance.

Of the listed malls, the one I found most interesting on a Saturday was the Dort Mall in Flint. While old and situated in a run-down area, the mall inside looked clean and maintained. The parking lot was in good repair. Massive single-beamed old wooden arches, stained and shellacked or maybe varnished, supported the roof inside giving the place an earthy feel. An old Zamboni machine for resurfacing ice rinks was on display. Businesses that were open included several of the usual personal care variety, some flea markets, and the "810 Munchies" restaurant. Other mall tenants were evident but seemed to be for special purposes; not the usual shopping mall things.
The 810 Munchies restaurant has a typical American menu and is entered from inside the mall. The "810 Munchies" reminded me of some friendly small-town restaurants I have known. I had an omelett and read a book for a while, and I consider the "810" a good find.
